2003 - Present - Designed Xperiences - CEO
DX is a strategic digital media company specializing in experience
management and computer/human interaction. Projects include business
and marketing consulting, and the integration of Web sites, community
portals, blogs, games and other interactive media into the overall
business process to enhance operations and better meet organizational
goals. Activities include:
- Strategic planning and implementing technology as part of overall business operations and goals
- Creating Web sites with interactive elements to foster participation by visitors
- Implementing custom scripting and open source software for community and collaboration
- Researching online communities from both a technical and sociological vantage as to how to best build, maintain and leverage them to further organizational goals

Management of the nonprofit Internet and New Media industry organization
chartered for education and the support of its members, including
technical, career and business development. Duties include:
- Arranging org participation in industry events. Representing org at these events.
- Setting the agenda and running Board meetings;
- Recruiting volunteers, speakers and Board members;
- Building cooperative alliances with other organizations;
- Negotiating with other organizations and vendors for strategic partnerships and member discounts for goods, services and events;
- WWWAC meeting planning;
- Organized panel discussion and social networking events;
- Lead member of the mailing list's moderating team;
- Working with teams maintaining the web site and servers;
- Developing a new online community site;
- Installed, managed and moderated a breakfast club chat room;
- Managing SIGs (Special Interest Groups), including meetings and mail lists;

Significant achievements include: building a consensus to enact much
needed revisions to the bylaws; successfully directing the effort to make
online registration available after it had been stalled for several years.
The next major milestone is bringing the Drupal-based community site live,
which is scheduled to happen shortly. Volunteer part-time position.
As part of WWWAC's "Good Works" program I participated in the ImagineNY
project of the Municipal Art Society, where I:
- Worked in collaboration with staffers, other volunteers and commercial entities to design and implement a Web site which encouraged commentary and idea submissions from the community
- Participated in planning sessions with staffers and other volunteers
- Provided technical support and assistance, including several mail lists both public and private
- Acted as a facilitator in discussion groups
2001 - 2002 - Marymount Manhattan College - Adjunct Professor Taught a lab-based introductory multimedia course which covered the basics of print and web publishing including design and layout theory, graphic and animation work, and sound recording and editing.
1996 - 2003 - ThingsWeb - Principal
Computer consulting; custom software development and training (comprehensive listing of applications produced); computer system and network consultation, troubleshooting, installation, configuration and training; database development; Web site development and troubleshooting (includes information architecture, design, graphics, coding, scripting, strategic planning, technology consulting, customer experience management planning, RFP consulting and development, etc.); banner ad development and troubleshooting; more.
Specifically, I:
- Created community-building scripts for Web sites, including guest books and message boards

Among other activities and projects, we consulted with clients on computerization, performing needs analysis and making software/hardware and implementation recommendations; trained clients one on one and in small groups to utilize computer systems and software tailored to their business or personal needs; provided business consulting and marketing services, including logo/letterhead and newsletter design, surveys with analysis and events planning; sold, configured and repaired computer systems and networks. Training included general computer use, word processing, spreadsheets, accounting, desktop publishing, graphics production, CAD, video production, multimedia, database and other specialized/vertical software applications.
Additionally, individually I:
- Produced custom applications in xBase, FoxPro, Pascal, C++ and Multimedia Toolbook
- Consulted with Virginia AFL-CIO on creating their Workers Assistance Program (WAP), including logo and newsletter design and planning the rollout event
- Produced and Project Managed a CD-based trade journal for the paper industry. I worked with a staff of 6 in-house, two subcontractor programming teams and two video teams
- Produced short course in basics of HTML and web site development, including animation and video production
As part of the CD project:
- Responsible for programming, video encoding, pulling content together into Multimedia Toolbook files, creating CD masters, QA/testing and mass production of finished issue (produced quarterly and distributed to 10,000 worldwide)
- Created technique for producing "slide show" videos combined with high quality voice-overs to conserve space and bandwidth
- Created web site based on CD product (1996), including dealing with issues of encoding video for the web and converting database data for web delivery
- Installed, configured and moderated conference chat room sessions based on the graphical chat software The Palace
1985 1988 - Bowling Technologies Principal
Consulted with clients on computerization, performing needs analysis and making software/hardware and implementation recommendations. Trained clients one on one and in small groups to utilize computer systems and software tailored to their business or personal needs. Training included general computer use, word processing, spreadsheets, accounting, desktop publishing, database and other specialized/vertical software applications. 1984 1985 - Advance Computers Sales Support & Training
Trained customers in computer basics, word processing, spreadsheet and other microcomputer software. Sold and repaired computer systems and printers. Worked with minicomputer based multi-user system in sales support role. Also performed sales, installation and after-sales technical assistance. Was technical liaison with the local computer user's group, participating in meetings, running SIGs on subjects such a programming and databases, and eventually becoming the organization's president.
1983 1984 - Computer Teaching Center Instructor
